Week 12 Newsletter
As week 12 comes to an end, we usher in the final week of head-to-head matchups. Today, we take a closer look at the pivotal role that defensive coordinators play in determining the success of your teams.
Below, we delve into the history and statistics, examining the average points scored against each owner in our league.
The league-wide average points per team, per game, all time, is 115.64.
Holding the record for the WORST DEFENSE IN LEAGUE HISTORY is none other than Ryan Zisman of the FSB Zuggernauts, conceding an average of 127 points per game. His defense has given up:
- The 5th most points in 2020
- The most points against in both 2021 and 2022
- The 2nd most points so far in 2023
People have called him the Jack Del Rio of defensive play calling. Zisman responded with this request for comment:
Call me what you’d like, but we all know I’m the Andy Fuckin’ Reid of this league. We are an offense first organization and will continue to achieve great things.
Despite his musings, Zisman hasn’t seen post season play since his inaugural year.
Jordan Bosch of The Terrordome stands head and shoulders above the rest, allowing only 109 points per game against him. His team boasted the fewest points against in 2020, securing his podium finish in 3rd place. In 2021, his team allowed the second-fewest points against, leading to a playoff appearance and a 7th place finish. Last year proved to be a downturn where he allowed an uncharacteristic third most points against him resulting in his Toilet Bowl appearance (besting Trey Kennedy of Myanmar Vibes in week 16). Bosch rebounds this year, showcasing a robust defensive front with the second-fewest points allowed. We obtained this exclusive interview with Bosch:
Q: What has been the secret to your success?
A: Our defensive coordinator is a real football guy, communicating only in inaudible grunts. As the head coach I try not to micromanage and leave the defensive scheming to him. I have picked up on a tendency of his, however, to pick up players he thinks might go off and then just keep them on his bench…never actually playing them…there may be something there.
Q: What advice would you give to those who focus solely on offense?
A: Grow up. Football is a game of 3 phases. You must be dominant in all 3.
Q: What else would you like included in this newsletter?
A: Wins against the median is the softest thing I’ve ever heard of. It’s a wins and losses league. Always has been. Wins against the median is participation-trophy-culture at its worst.
