Opinion | Drinks from the Bottom of the Barrel

By Matthew O’Neil, Contributing Writer

I propose the introduction of a new tradition: Bottom of the Barrel. This title will be awarded to the division with the lowest collective wins by the end of the regular season (Week 14).

Proposal Overview:

  • The Title: The division with the fewest combined wins at the end of Week 14 will be crowned Bottom of the Barrel.
  • The Stakes: Members of the Bottom of the Barrel will each be responsible for buying a pitcher of beer at the next league happy hour. If a member can’t attend, they’ll Venmo their contribution to a fellow division mate who can.
  • Tiebreaker: In the event of a tie, the division with the lowest total points scored will be the Bottom of the Barrel.

Why It’s Fun:

  • Bragging Rights: Naming and shaming the Bottom of the Barrel will add a layer of fun for the rest of us.
  • Happier Happy Hour: Imagine knowing your drinks are being paid for by the league’s assiest performers.
  • Intensity: This rule means every matchup matters more, especially for divisions on the bubble.

Conclusion:

This proposal brings humor, accountability, and extra stakes to the league and will result in a hoppier happy hour with extra crispy beers.
