  3. Review trade stats from 2023.
  4. Include this week’s recap and next week’s preview.

Fun Facts

Unrelated to any of the information below, but a fun fact about trade deadlines—when the NFL added an 18th week in 2021 to the regular season, team owners forgot to adjust the trade deadline by one week, per Dianna Russini of The Athletic. This rule was corrected ahead of the 2024 season extending the trade deadline to the end of week 9.

Total Trades per Manager:

  1. Andrew Norton: 6
  2. John Gilmore: 6
  3. Connor Lamb: 5
  4. Ryan Zisman: 5
  5. Sam Arends: 3
  6. Spencer Mobley: 2
  1. Jordan Bosch: 2
  2. Chris Wahrman: 1
  3. Collin Green: 1
  4. Matt O’Neil: 1
  5. Travis Cotton: 0
  6. Trey Kennedy: 0

Total Trades Between Managers with Multiple Trades:

  1. Andrew Norton + John Gilmore: 3 trades
  2. Connor Lamb + Ryan Zisman: 2 trades
  3. John Gilmore + Sam Arends: 2 trades

We congratulate John Gilmore of team Can You Take Me Higher? for being the only manager with multiple trades to multiple teams.

Trade Review Deep Dive

In Week 2, over two months ago, Norton and Zisman completed the first trade of the season. Let’s breakdown the trade to see who has won the exchange so far this season:

ZismanNorton
ReceivesKelceWorthy + $40
Total Points Since Trade122.895.1
Total Starts86
Floor Since Trade When Started2.8-1
Ceiling Since Trade When Started2513.7
Points Per Game Since Trade15.411.9
Points Per Game Started Since Trade15.410.3

Additional context:

Zisman had top TEs from 2023 with Laporta and Hockenson on his roster at the time. Norton had current TE2 for the season with Kittle. Norton would later use his extra $40 in faab to purchase Austin Ekeler for $15 from Lamb who he started week 11 to earn most points.

Conclusion:

Norton traded risk for certainty with additional faab and gained a high-potential deep threat in Worthy. Nonetheless, we give a slight edge to Zisman for winning this trade.

Best Trades of 2023

  1. Arends receiving Pitts for Higbee from Norton
  2. Callister receiving Goff for Gallup from Norton
  3. Lamb receiving Rice for Harris from Norton
  4. Mobley receiving Henry/Goedert for Pacheco/Pitts from Norton

Norton, currently 4-7 and third in his own division, was included on the bad end of the top 4 trade value differentials last season. Who would have guessed the most degenerate trader among us would be the only one employed as a professional international trader. Note here, we do mean trader as in grain, not traitor as in fascism, for this man is a Patriot.

Norton is the all time most active trader on the block with 20 total trades since 2022. Yet, he has the worst all-time trade value differential.

They call him the market masochist. People are saying this man is as addicted to trades as Lamb is to melons. Our street reporters captured this image of Norton over the weekend:

But perhaps that’s the wrong spin? Perhaps Norton is simply a man with an others-first mindset. We reached out to associates of Norton who completed trades with him this season, and they had this to say:

  • Arends: “Andrew runs a classy organization that isn’t afraid to get down to brass tacks to make a fair offer. You get the idea that Andrew is interested in a trade where both teams have a chance to win and not just gutting your team from the inside out for pennies on the dollar.”
  • Gilmore: “Wow. What a guy. He…first of all I’d vote for him for president any day of the week. You know what? He could be a democrat—I’d vote for him. What a man. Look. Strong hairline. Strong jawline. Cheekbones. What a smile. What a smile on that guy. What a man. What a guy. Wow. Strong heart. Bad trades though. In terms of who do you want to bring your kids to church? Andrew.”
  • Lamb: “Throughout the years, no one has done more business with The Show™ than Andrew. He’s also a fellow champion. He makes great trades and we have nothing but respect for what his organization is doing. He goes about the game the right way.”
  • Zisman: “This organization loves doing business with Norton. He’s always hungry to haggle, does what’s best for his team, and we look forward to future seasons of continued commerce.”
